Anchorage air quality advisory cancelled

By KTVA CBS 11 News 3:41 PM February 7, 2014

Originally issued Feb. 5, the cancellation pertains only to the Municipality of Anchorage

ANCHORAGE – An air quality advisory for Anchorage and Eagle River was cancelled Friday, health officials said.

Originally issued Feb. 5, the advisory cancellation pertains only to the Municipality of Anchorage, said Jennifer Ruggles with the Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services in a statement.

Airborne concentrations of dust have tapered off and are not expected to reach unhealthy levels during the weekend, Ruggles said.

The snow covered dust on the ground and and the wind blew away some of the particles in the air, Anchorage DHHS said, which helped contribute to the cancellation.

Anchorage DHHS will keep tabs on air quality conditions. The message on the municipal air quality hotline (343-4899) will be updated prior to 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day during the weekend “if warranted by a significant deterioration in air quality conditions,” Ruggles said.
