For the entire month of March, people can guess the total snow accumulation at the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood for a cash prize. It’s called the Alyeska Snow Classic and is a fundraiser for the Four Valleys Community School. The nonprofit education center serves the communities of Girdwood, Bird, Indian and Portage.
Tickets cost $2.50 and there is only one guess per ticket. Those tickets will be available at Girdwood businesses like Jack Sprat, Chair Five and more. There are participating businesses in Anchorage as well. For a complete list, visit the snow classic’s website.
The cutoff for guessing and buying a ticket is March 31. The snow accumulation will be measured April 16. It will be calculated in feet, to the hundredths of an inch. Winners will be announced on May 16. Last year’s total accumulation was 3.29 inches.
The full contest rules can be read at the Alyeska Snow Classic’s website.
