Aliy Zirkle hopes the worst is behind her

By Dave Goldman 6:02 PM March 5, 2014

Veteran musher takes her 24-hour break

McGRATH – It hasn’t been an easy ride for anyone in Iditarod 42.

Many of the mushers made it to Takotna Wednesday and are on their 24-hour stop. One of them is Iditarod veteran Aliy Zirkle, who has finished the Last Great Race a dozen times.

After going through the likes of the Farewell Burn though, she says she’s hoping the worst part of the race is behind her.

“I got here a little quicker than I planned,” Zirkle said Wednesday. “Because the trail was a little faster.”
