Temperatures warmer than normal
ANCHORAGE - While the Lower 48 is getting clobbered by major ice storms and prolonged cold temperatures, Alaska is seeing a run of mild weather.
Temperatures have been a bit warmer than normal for this time of year, and Anchorage is nearly 15 inches below the snowfall average for the season.
“We’ll get our snow eventually, it’s just a matter of when,” said Sam Albanse of the National Weather Service in Anchorage.
There have been years that the area hasn’t hadn’t snow until January, Albanse said.
“Fortunately we are not in that boat,” he said.
The National Weather Service said people should be careful trying to fish, walk or snow machine on unstable ice.
