Alaskans rally for public education

By KTVA CBS 11 News 7:39 AM February 18, 2014

Another rally is scheduled in Anchorage this Saturday.

ANCHORAGE – Armed with signs and their voices, a few hundred frustrated Alaskans gathered in Juneau Monday to give lawmakers an earful about the state of public education in Alaska.

Democrat Sen. Berta Gardner led the “Save Our Schools” rally to the steps of the Capitol, where they waved signs and lobbied for increased school funding. The group also spoke out against a proposed voucher program that would allow public education dollars to go towards private schools.

The organization behind the rally — Great Alaska Schools — is holding another rally in Anchorage on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Loussac Library.
