A 26-year-old North Pole man has been sentenced to just over seven years in prison for the dragging death of a deaf woman. Kevin Garner was sentenced Friday in the February 2007 death of Catherine Ahsoak.   Full Story

The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly says skyrocketing energy costs are turning into a public emergency.

Mayor Jim Whitaker says rising energy costs are going to have a big impact on next year's economy in Fairbanks. The borough said yesterday that it is prepared to put state aid - aimed at boosting energy efficiency in homes - on the fast track.   Full Story

 
A wetter-than-usual April is keeping the fire danger in the Interior down.

Robert Schmoll, fire management officer for the Division of Forestry in Fairbanks, says so far the fire danger has stayed at a minimum. He says there was one fire two weeks ago out by Salcha, but that's been it.   Full Story

 
Officials with the Nenana Ice Classic are double-checking the tickets to figure out the winner, or winners, of this year's jackpot - valued at $303,895.

The ice went out at 10:53 p.m. Alaska Standard Time on Tuesday when a wooden tripod floated down the Tanana River on a sheet of ice and tripped a clock on shore.   Full Story

Alaska State Troopers say a Shungnak man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and 15 years probation for sexually abusing a toddler.

Troopers say 25-year-old Chester Cleveland was sentenced in Kotzebue court.   Full Story
