Alaska vocalist takes top prize in Rondy talent competition

By KTVA CBS 11 News 10:59 AM March 5, 2014

A student of the late Mitch Tubman, singer claims $500 memorial scholarship

ANCHORAGE – Malie Delgado’s voice took her all the way to the top at this year’s Great Alaska Talent Competition.

While the $1,000 grand prize was an “absolutely crazy” way to cap off this year’s Fur Rondy, Delgado said the biggest prize was a $500 scholarship for musical education. The scholarship was dedicated to Mitch Tubman — Delgado’s vocal coach for 10 years — who passed away earlier this year.

“I thought that I represented him in a very, very good way, and that made me very, very happy,” Delgado said.
