Alaska filmmakers leverage crowdfunding to bring documentary to life

By KTVA CBS 11 News 3:03 PM July 28, 2014
ANCHORAGE –

It took more than $150,000 — and the support of more than 1,000 donors — to make Hybrid Color Films’ Winter Project a reality. The documentary film tells the story of snowmachining in Alaska’s backcountry, and was financed through a successful crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter.com.

Travis Smith, the film’s producer, and creative director Kyle Aramburo appeared on KTVA’s Daybreak Monday morning to talk about what it took to bring Winter Project to the big screen.
