The North Slope Borough announced the interim mayor Tuesday following the recall of former Mayor Charlotte Brower. A date for a special election for a new mayor was also set for June 7.
The NSB Assembly certified the April 5 recall election Tuesday, and then selected Assembly President Mike Aamodt for the position until the new mayor is elected.
“Today, the North Slope Borough Assembly honored the will of its citizens by certifying the results of the recall election and appointing an interim mayor,” Aamodt said in a statement. “This interim administration will focus on addressing the needs of our residents and communities until voters have an opportunity to elect a new mayor in June.”
The NSB Assembly seat vacated by Aamodt will be filled within 20 days, according to a statement from the borough.
