907Life’s Phil Crawford has three recommendations for where to be in March.
First on the list is a Fur Rendezvous favorite, the Running of the Reindeer. It takes place this Saturday, March 4 and starts at 4 p.m. The event is a mad dash down 4th Avenue. Crawford said he likes the event because people dress up in costumes.
“One of my favorite things is seeing a not-so-agile Spider-Man; somebody dressed up as Darth Vader falling,” said Crawford. There are more events and information available at the Fur Rondy website.
Next on his list is the Last Frontier Pond Hockey Classic. Crawford says this is an all-day hockey party on Big Lake in the Mat-Su Valley. The four-on-four hockey tournament is being put on by the Scotty Gomez Foundation. It will start Friday, March 10 and run until Sunday, March 12. There will be a concert Saturday, March 11 featuring Anchorage reggae band H3. For more information, visit the Pond Hockey Classic’s website.
Finally, Crawford said the big party in March is Saint Patrick’s Day, which takes place Friday, March 17. He added that there’s not one specific event, but Irish bars all around Anchorage, like McGinley’s Pub, will be celebrating in various ways.
